- South Miami Visual Arts
Magnet students participated in The Shapes of Space
Exhibition at the 801 Art Studios. The show, featuring
340 works, is presented by Miami-Dade County Public Schools
and the Division of Life Skills and Special Projects. Congratulations
to the following students for their entire's in the show.

is scheduled for Wed., Nov. 19th in the Media Center at 2:40
pm.
Teachers, students, and parents are encouraged to attend.
- Congratulations to the SMSH Girl's Soccer Team; they tied
at their October 30th game, 3-3, giving them 1st place in
the tournament.

- Results of the 2008 Student Mock Presidential Election
are outlined below. Results are listed by elementary school
level, middle school level, senior high school level, and
District totals. The following results ONLY reflect schools
and students who participated in the online Student Mock
Presidential Election. Many schools opted to use a paper
ballot to conduct individual school-site student mock elections
and are NOT included in the results listed below.
• Elementary Schools: Total Votes Cast: 33,066
o Barack Obama: 77% (25,378)
o John McCain: 23% (7,688)
• Middle Schools: Total Votes Cast: 34,402
o Barack Obama: 82% (28,096)
o John McCain: 18% (6,306)
• Senior High Schools: Total Votes Cast: 13,398
o Barack Obama: 76% (10,243)
o John McCain: 24% (3,155)
• Total Student Votes Cast: 80,866
o Barack Obama: 79% (63,717)
o John McCain: 21% (17,149)
Curriculum and Instruction, Social Sciences, appreciates
the schools, teachers, and students who participated
in the 2008 Student Mock Presidential Election and practiced
the skills required to live in our democratic republic.

Last Thursday (10/23) Nike partnered
with Miami-Dade County Public Schools on a contest
challenging high school students to create art expressing
their Hispanic pride. Winners included SMSH student,
Laura Garcia. As the first-place winner, Laura received
a special Nike award and $2,500 check presented on
her behalf to the school's art program. The school's
student body also will receive a Nike T-shirt with
an image of Garcia's artwork. Congratulations to Laura
Garcia for her award-winning entry.
