Writer Coner McCreery visited South Miami Senior High to speak about the craft of writing, the value of comic books as literature and much more in a very enjoyable and informative presentation in November. Click on the images above to watch clips from his presentation and a link to his comic's website. We graciously thank Mr. McCreery for donating copies of his graphic novel to our media center and to the Cobra Readers' Operation Paperback.
Ms. Pierce's Broadcast TV students participate in a film shoot at Tropical Elementary, producing a film on the importance of early literacy.
The Cobra Readers are participating in a community service project entitled Operation Paperback. Operation Paperback is a non-profit organization that began in 1999 which matches requests from U.S. troops for specific reading material (more information can be found at www.operationpaperback.org) .
We will be placing drop boxes around the school to help collect books for troops that are deployed overseas and their families. Collections will occur approximately every two weeks until the New Year. In order to keep track of this, please have donors place a post-it inside the book with their name and ID number. Books need to be in decent condition, with no writing inside. The desire for romance novels is limited, so they are not encouraged. Magazines can also be submitted. Please help us spread the word!
