The next South
Miami Senior High PTSA meeting will be on Tuesday,
March 18: 6:30pm. We will be going to conduct
a meeting hosted by students services and a presenter
from Region V on Cyber-net Safety and Cyber Bullying
Prevention.

The Key
Club and Kiwanis Club of Miami will
sponsor a Family Fun Day on Saturday, March 15th.
Proceeds from the fair will benefit the Key

Members of the Magnet
Music Program at South Miami Senior High School
have been invited to perform at Carnegie Hall on Monday,
April 21st, 2008. We are currently taking sponsorship
donations through Cobra Parents' Inc. to fund extra
outings as this costs a lot of extra money. Anyone
interested in donating should contact Jennifer
Jimenez, or the booster president, Angie
Fernandez. Students will be performing all
Latin works with a world premier of a piece "Gloria".
The entire concert will be presented in Spanish
and Portuguese. We are taking 17 students and 5
adults.

Studies Department was recently honored by the
Miami Branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta
with a third place award in the bank's Lesson Plan

Student volunteers are needed to help
to count and separate the FCAT snacks for next week.
Work on Saturday, March 8th from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
and receive 8 hours of community service. Students will
report to the main entrance of the school and look for

Magnet
Dance would like to invite you and your family to
the end of the year concert at Ransom Everglades Theater
in Coconut Grove on Saturday, May 10, 2008 at 7:00pm.
Teachers will receive a complimentary ticket for this
performance. Any additional ticket is $10.00 each. Bring
your family and friends to an evening of dance with the
South Miami Sr. High Magnet Dance Program and guest performance
by Dancetown Productions.

March 4, 2008 was not designated a Secondary Early Dismissal
Day as indicated on the District Master Calendar.
The cancellation of the Evening Parent/Teacher Conferences does not affect
the dismissal of students at their regularly scheduled dismissal times. March
4, 2008 is a regular school day.

Governor Charlie Crist recently
announced Florida’s Sunshine Week “Government in the
Sunshine” Web site and invited Florida public school
students in grades 9-12 to participate in the Florida
Sunshine Week essay contest. Sunshine Week, March 16-22,
2008, celebrates the State of Florida’s dedication
to making state and local government more accessible
to the public.
The essay contest is open to all
Florida public school students in grades
9-12 and the
winner will be announced March 18, 2008.
The first place winner will receive a $5,000
scholarship,
the second place winner will receive a
$2,500 scholarship, and third place will
receive a
$1,500 scholarship. All winners will receive
recognition at an event at the Governor’s
Mansion. Essays should answer the question, “What
role does open government play within a
democratic society and a democratic government?”

Cobra
Readers will be hosting a Book Swap
for our school community on Friday, March 7th in
the Media
Center. Faculty, staff, and students:
we encourage you to start bringing in books that
you've already read and have lying around the
house. For each book you give, you will receive
a ticket
to "buy" a book at the Book Swap. (One
ticket will "buy" one book). We ask
that the books be in good condition, and high
school level
or higher.
