As you read this report, keep in mind that for all the state schools there will be a decline in the number of entering freshman because of budgetary cuts and an increase in applicants!!!! This is why I will remind everyone again to get your applications in before December! I can’t stress enough the importance of sticking with this deadline.

FIU has asked that everyone apply early. Upon acceptance letters of intention need to be in by May 1st. Scholarship deadline is Feb. 15th! They have Engineering, Architecture, Law Medical school-for the fall of 2009. The college of education has a 99% pass rate for teachers taking their Certification tests. College of Law students have a 94% passing rate for their boards. The school of nursing students have 94% passing rate on their boards. There are many internship opportunities. The School of Business is rated 7th in the country.

FSU will resend you acceptance if you allow senioritis to get the best of you! They have 3 new essays, but only require one. Freshman will be required to read a book that will then be incorporated into your classes in the fall. Students must look at the sub scores as well as total SAT score. In the SAT CR min. 500 and math min. 500. In the ACT the min. writing 21, min math 21, min reading 22.

NCF has a different approach to education. It has a very human approach. It prefers the common app. And it has a holistic way of evaluating applicants. There are 768 total students. 58% women. Some of their majors include biology, Marine science, psychology, political science, and Chinese Languages and Neuro science. In the students second year they will individualize design courses. They must do research and Internships. They also demand the students study abroad. In the students senior year they must do a thesis. There are no grades. All classes are pass/fail.

UCF is the second largest school in Florida. They have about 48,000 students. They have a school of Film and Digital media. Their college of medicine opens Oct. 3. They are affiliated with Veterans hospital and are good in research. They have a new major, construction engineering. There are 10,000 students living on campus. Fall enrollment will be 4,050 freshmen.

Students need to challenge themselves. The have a holistic way of reviewing application. The essay is very important. Make sure you answer the questions asked! Your essay needs to stand out…they want to know who you are, but remember, depth and breath!!!! Enrollment is frozen this year at 6,600 students.
