EESAC Minutes from August 27, 2008
Present: Administrators, Gilberto Bonce, Stephanie Tudor, Claudia Garcia,
David Loughlin; Teachers, Anthony Balboa, John Branstetter, George Burstein,
Michelle Currier, Bernie Fernandez, Marilyn Riggins, Elena Ruiz, Niels Sesin;
UTD Rep., M. Ciriano; Parent, Lidia Dania; Students, Alexander Amores, Javier
Estefan, Maria Garcia, Andrew Perez, Andrea Rivera, Dimas Torresllorca
- The meeting started at 2:45 PM in the Student Services conference room.
Mr. Branstetter discussed EESAC policy and procedures for the new student
representatives.
The members of EESAC introduced themselves.
- Mr. Bonce spoke about the change
in state funding for ESSAC from $10 per student for the 2007-2008 school
year to $5 per student for the 2008-2009 school year.
- Bernie Fernandez presented
a proposal asking for $200 from EESAC funds in order to purchase needed materials
and open an in-school business (café) to be run by special education
students. After a majority vote, the ESSAC committee decided to give Bernie
Fernandez $200.
- Ms. Tudor discussed and presented the 2008-2009 School Improvement
Plan for approval. During the presentation Reading, Mathematics, Writing,
and Science goals were explained. Ms. Tudor mentioned that 100% of the Junior
class
took the FCAT Science exam during the 2007-2008 school year. After a motion
and a vote, a majority of the ESSAC committee agreed to approve the School
Improvement Plan for submission. Mr. Bonce moved that the EESAC form a committee
to revise the School Improvement Plan if needed. The committee would consist
of the following: Mr. Bonce, Ms. Tudor, John Branstetter (EESAC chair), M.
Ciriano (UTD), Alexander Amores (Student), and Javier Estefan (Student).
Department chairs would also provide input if needed. After a majority vote,
the committee
to revise the School Improvement Plan if needed was approved.
- Ms. Tudor stated
that EESAC meetings are scheduled for the third Wednesday of every month.
The EESAC meeting schedule for the 2008-2009 school year is as follows:

- April 22
- May 20
- Ms. Tudor stated that South Miami’s goal
is to have all Seniors apply for college.
- Mrs. Ciriano praised the
Small Learning
Communities.
- Mr. Bonce discussed how pleased he is with students
abiding to the new uniform policy.
- The meeting adjourned at 3:30 PM.
