The first PTSA meeting for 2008-09 will take place at at 6:30 pm on October 28th in the auditorium.
The South Miami Senior High PTSA dues are 5 dollars. A drop-off box to turn in forms can be found at the Activities Office. For more information, please contact the PTSA president.

Dear Parents/Guardians:
On behalf of the PTSA Board and myself; I would like to extend a huge welcome to our “Cobra Family”. It gives me great pleasure to see that you have become interested in our organization and our efforts to be an integral part of your child’s life. On that note, I would like to share the following story which I believe, pretty much defines our purpose.
Every afternoon, the young boy walked along the beach where he lived. One day, he noticed that when the tide went out, there were many starfish left stranded on the beach, only to die before the water returned.
The young boy began to pick them up and throw them back into the water. There were so many. However, he did what he could.
One day, an old man walking the beach paused and observed the boy as he threw the starfish back into the ocean. He confronted him and asked him what he was doing. The boy did not answer. The old man turned him around to look down the beach where there were thousands of stranded starfish.
"You'll never make a difference," he said. "There are just too many. Forget about them. Just enjoy your day."
Purposely, the young boy reached down and picked up another starfish. With all of his might he threw it as far as he could into the ocean. Then, he turned to face the old man. As he looked into his eyes he said, "I made a difference for that one."
It is my sincere hope that you join us in our efforts to “make a difference”; you can be on your way by following these simple steps: become a PTSA member (you need to submit our membership form with a $5.00 fee); attend our meetings, EVERYONE is welcome, is not for members only; and become a volunteer, share your talents with someone and help to ease their day.
