  • South Miami Senior High School's Best Buddies club will sponsor a blood drive on Tuesday, January 29th from 8:00 AM - 2:00 PM in the Auditorium. Staff is invited to participate!

  • Cobra Artwork on Display at Miami Art Museum. Congratulations go out to four of our students who will be exhibiting their works at the Miami Art Museum as part of the 2008 Scholastic Art Awards Exhibition.
    • Jean Carlos Fernandez (11th grade) - Silver Key
    • Sulay Palenque (11th grade) - Gold Key & American Vision Nominee
    • Gabrielle Pena (12th grade) - Silver Key
    • Roger Sarria (12th grade) - Honorable Mention

      Regional winners at this level will go on to compete at the national level in New York. The Miami Art Museum and Miami-Dade Public Schools present the 2008 Scholastic Art Awards Exhibition January 27th through February 17th.   • Pre-sales for the Class of 2011 t-shirts have begun! See Ms. Cuesta in Room 427 for purchase. The shirts are $10.

  • Congratulations to Rose Tresvant's Law Studies students and their student coaches for winning the first ever prestigious Florida Law Related Stephan C Shenkman Award at the We the People competition. The award recognizes the school that best demonstrates extraordinary conduct and scholarship and the highest ideas of civic education.

  • Some upcoming dates to be aware of:
    • January 31st is an Early Release Day
    • February 5th is an Early Release Parent – Teacher Conference day. Conferences will run from 11:30 to 2:30. Our Curriculum Carousel will run from 6:30 PM to 8:00PM.

  • Parent Fitness Gram reports were sent home the week of Jan 14th. For more information go to the Physical Education and Health department.

  • Any student interested in either this year's Close Up trip to Washington, D.C. or the January, 2009 trip to witness the Inauguration of our next president (these trips are open to all students) can find information on the bulletin board outside Room 200. They should also see Dr. Astuto in Room 306 for free log-ins to the web sites and information on how to get financial assistance for the trip.

  • Congratulations to Rose Tresvant and the students who are representing the 18th Congressional District in the "We The People " Competition in Orlando. This is Ms. Tresvant's third trip to this state competition. They leave on the morning of January 10th. Good luck to Ms. Tresvant and her Law Studies Team!

  • The South Miami Senior High School Jazz Band will feature at the Future of Jazz Youth Concert. The concert will be on Wednesday, January 23, 2008 at 7:30PM at the Dade County Auditorium. Tickets are $25.00//For More Info: 305-234-0802, ext. 102.

  • FCAT Cobra Saturday Academy will begin Saturday, January 12, 2008 and will run through March. Breakfast will be provided. Hours will be 7:30 am to 12 pm.

  • Magnet Visual Art students Talia Capistrano, Sulay Palenque, Miguel Saludes, and Michelle Ziadie will be exhibiting their works in the "Beaux Arts Student Artist Showcase" in UM's Lowe Art Museum. Laura Garcia received first place in the Graphics category and will receive a cash prize of $200 the night of the showcase. The 57th Annual Beaux Arts Festival of Art will take place Saturday, January 19th and Sunday, January 20th, 2008 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the University of Miami.
