The Big Read is an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts designed to restore reading to the center of American culture. In 2006, South Miami Senior High was invited to participate in a Big Read event with newscaster Angela Ray at Miami Dade College North Campus. To help promote the event and the Big Read, the Media Center featured a multimedia display to raise awareness of the book and offered free copies of the Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451.
