South Miami Senior High

A major project for the Media Center in the 2008-09 school year has been the reintegration of the audio-visual services into its range of resources. With this change, the Media Center now oversees the library and all its services, the school website and now audio-visual services.

AV Reconstruction Phase 1

Among the major changes made to the AV Department include:

  • The discarding of obsolete and broken equipment such as:
    • 16mm film projectors
    • 35mm filmstrip projectors
    • Califone tape players/recorders
    • 24' LP record players
    • 16mm EZ-Viewer
    • coaxle-only 14 inch televisions
    • VCRs
    • VHS camcorders
    • 8mm reel to reel player
  • The cataloging of AV materials including equipment and media in the Destiny system. This will at last allow for LMS to track stastistics based on A/V media.

AV Reconstruction Phase 2

With old equipment gone, the reorganization of the AV department continues with the removal of obsolete counter space to make room for the introduction of new equipment. Mr. Truby built a new 'Ikia' styled shelf unit for the soon-to-grow videos/DVD collection. The room was painted and a project to replace and abate the floor was implemented during the summer of 2009.
