  7. City Year - (is a member of Americorps) also visited our school this week. City Year brings together young adults, ages 17-24, from diverse backgrounds for a demanding year of full-time community service, leadership development, and civic engagement. Students do receive a stipend and $5,000 for college, at the end of the 10 month period. South Miami has been selected to be one of the Founding Schools to participate in the program. The program is just getting started in Miami, but it is a well established program in many other cities. City Year will also offer our students opportunities to volunteer on a part-time basis. They will visit after spring break to give a group presentation. Encourage your club members to get involved! If you would like more information, email me.
