·        New Members:

o       Make sure you have turned in the green membership form to be on our official roster

o       Only those who have turned in the membership form will get club photo passes, etc.

 

·        Fundraising—Muffin Sales in the Media Center

o       Update:

§         First Lunch Members help sell on Monday before school beginning at 7:15am and during first lunch.

§         Second Lunch Members: help sell on Thursday before school beginning at 7:15am and during second lunch.

o       We will use the money we make to pay for field trips, books that we read (we just spent $462 ordering our first book!), assist with t-shirt cost, etc.

 

·        Wordathon: 

o       When: Saturday, October 18th,  2-4pm

o       Where:  International Mall Branch Library, 10315 NW 12 St. (If entering the mall from NW 12th Street use the entrance between the Hyundai Dealer and the Esserman Dealer.  After turning into the mall look for the green library sign posted just past the Hyundai entrance on the right hand side of the entrance drive.)

o       What:  You will read a poem,  short story, or excerpt from a book for 3-5 minutes and you will receive  4 hours of community services and a 2008 Teen Read Week T-shirt designed by a local teen.

o       Turn in  the Word-A-Thon form to me and choose what you would like to read. On  Friday, October 17th, we will have a run-through of what we’re each reading.

 

·        Book Swap—November 7  & 10th

o       October: we invite students to bring books in good condition they’d like to trade. 

§         Committee to make signs and publicize

§         If you can help make posters/banners, please come after school on Tuesdays after school in the Media Center.  Sarahit Zerpa is in charge of this committee.

·        T-Shirt Update

o       The club will contribute $6.50 toward the purchase of each shirt, so the price will now be $10 per student.

o       Please bring the $10 by next Friday, October 3rd.

 

·        Book Consideration List: AND THE  WINNER IS…

o       #1   Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher—First Place (22 points)

§         Our books have been ordered and will hopefully arrive by next Friday

§         Go to

o       #3 Avalon High by Meg Cabot—Second Place (11 points)

o       #5  City of Bones  by Cassandra Clare—Third Place (10 points)

·        Sign up for our online discussion board to discuss what we read! Here are the instructions to register:

o        Go to www. Nicenet.org

o        On the right  side of the screen, where it says “New Students Start Here” click “Students: Join A Class”

o        Enter the class key: 876W8XA43  and click “Join the Class”

o        Create a user name and password, and type in your email info. Click “Join the Class!”

o        Click “Finish Registration”

o        Log in to the Internet Classroom Assistant using your user name and password.

o        On the left side of the screen, click on “Conferencing”

o        Click on “13 Reasons Why By Jay Asher”

o        This is where we can post comments as we read!
